Animal Rescue

Snotty

Recently, my friends and I have quite unwittingly become animal rescuers.

I love the birds, they sing to the flowers and trees and their music heals Gaia. I feed them seeds to encourage their presence in the garden.

One day, a handsome black cat appeared at the back door. He was feral and had a bad cold. At first I didn’t want the pussy cat around because he might chase the birds away, but after a while the little fellow was so charming and persistent that he moved in and we called him Snotty. He and the birds soon lived in harmony.

Not long afterwards a woman I know arrived with three beautiful, strong dogs which she had rescued from Ecuador. So, now the sharp-clawed Snotty would sit in the middle of the three poised puppies, completely unperturbed, waiting to be fed. They formed a family.

In the fields nearby lived some abandoned ponies, left by travellers. It became apparent they were not being fed, so they were the next project. We bought a bit of hay, fed them each day and called the vet when he was needed. They were named and loved as best we could and sometimes our animal healing friends would come and teach them how to be a herd once more or chat to them to cheer them up and alleviate their sadness.

Twelve fluffy, ferral kittens lived in the nearby courtyard. A wild storm came over one night and the kittens would have been drenched, had it not been for the potting shed that we recently turned into a five-star home for these kitties, complete with cat flap and soft furnishings. So that night our community of friends, rested easy knowing they were warm and safe.

Look around and see if there are animals that need some love – your chickens, the donkey in the field, your pet goldfish. The unconditional love and learning that Snotty and the others have given us is huge.
