Gay Marriage & Brain Drugs

American Fundamentalist Christians are virulently against gay marriages. They seek to impose their values on the rest of America through the courts, asking for the practice to be banned. The Prime Minister of Canada, Paul Martin, favors gay marriage; he is quoted as saying he will call an election if anyone tries to defeat the Canadian gay marriage laws. It’s the ‘live and let live’ of the Canadians that makes them different to others. If the gay thing is all a bit confusing, don’t worry; I think I have worked it out.

Marriage when broken down into simple terms is a contract between drug dealers. Pleasing experiences like sex, companionship, conviviality, etc., fire morphine-like chemicals in the brain. Morphine is a class “A” feel-good drug, heroin is a derivative of morphine (See below).* In marriage, you agree to become the main supplier of brain drugs to your spouse. If the distribution contract breaks down it is usually called adultery. But in the end it still a drug deal, much like Bayer might sign a contract to supply aspirin to Wal-Mart.

The second part of the marriage contract deals with money. In marriage, resources and energy are pooled and assets are divided and generally two can make a better life than one. Marriage grants each a greater security. But in the end “family values” that the Christians are so keen on is all about morphine in the brain. If family life made you vomit and candlelight dinners with your spouse irritated your hemorrhoids; if a barbecue on the lawn with the kids always gave you a blinding headache, the whole family values thing would be out of the window in sharp order-lost and gone forever. For humanity to survive we have to procreate and a shot of the class “A” is God’s way of making sure we keep to the task.

What makes family values holy and good in the mind of humans is the morphine. But there is no absolute reason why taking your kids camping is more holy and good than having dinner with your gay lover. If getting a hefty parking ticket fired endorphins in people’s brains the practice would soon be considered a gift from God. Hymns would be composed in the praise of it.

“Our father who art a drug in my brain, hallowed be thy fine…”

In sports, winning is considered better than losing, but that is mainly because winning gives you nice brain drugs, losing doesn’t. In the great gamut of eternal things losing and winning are the same, each is of no consequence. Parents encourage their teenage children to engage in sporting activities because those activities are considered good. The activity is seen to cause happiness. But sport is just another drug deal, one that offers endorphins in the brain, which makes the child easier to deal with when they get home. But if you take the brain drugs out of the equation, running a mile has no absolute value especially when you run it round a circular track, it’s pointless, you are back from where you started. Once you understand human life is really all about drugs, you can see how the Christian stance on “moral values” is just a turf war between drug dealers as to who will control the high ground in the morphine wars.

The other fundamentalist objection to gay marriage is the idea that God would not agree to it, but no one knows what God agrees to or not. And, if you think about it, why would a God of this universe and a trillion dimensions beyond, be bothered about what commercial and drug distribution deals we sign in morphine induced moments of passion?

If in your heart of hearts you are opposed to the gay lifestyle that’s fine, but you would have to wonder if you have the right to impose that objection on others. The “God argument” holds no water. We can never know what God wants, because we only have the perspective of a morphine-influenced brain with which to make that judgment. We could easily be in error. And anyway, we are not allowed to stand in judgment “as God” over others. That is arrogant. It’s the crime of the “fallen angel” wishing to be a god.

People that like their brain drugs from hetros’ should marry someone of the opposite sex and others that have a preference for “same sex” deals should also be allowed to proceed as they wish, unhindered by cheesy folk from Alabama and other clammy states.

To learn to accept humanity and ‘live and let live’ is the first law, after that the other commandments aren’t really needed. If you love humanity and care for them and you accept each as you find them, you’ll be following along with the commandments anyway. We can’t have a world at peace until people come to accept others that they don’t agree with; love and unconditional acceptance are interlinked.

In a loveless world of violent, redneck fundamentalists of every religion, the union between any two people, if there is love and they are kind to each other, would be a little triumph for God in a sea of dogma, vitriol, and hatred.

Try to be nice to everyone; be especially nice to those people you don’t like or agree with. It shows you are spiritually mature. Being accepting and kind to everyone is a stepping-stone to your eventual spiritual triumph.
